DERIVATION OF THE NAME WOKING

Apparently, at least this is the best guess, Woking is named after the people of Wocc or Wocca. This Wocc/Wocca character is believed to be a chieftain or warlord in Saxon times (500/600 AD) and the people of Wocc/Wocca give rise to the name Wocchingas which developed to become Woking. Fascinating, eh.
