YATELY MAY FAYRE

I said at work that I would like to see Morris Dancing. It actually has been an interest of mine since I have been here. I do not quite know why. I guess because it is weird English culture. One of my colleagues told me I should join him at the Yately Fair (actually it is spelt F-A-Y-R-E) on Bank Holiday Monday.
The fair was amazing because it had lots of stalls with all sorts of organisations represented. There was also a fascinating event entitled Cyril the Squirrel Terrier Racing. It was actually terriers racing and chasing a 'mechanical' squirrel. I do not know what Cyril referred to. It was quite amusing. We saw two British champion racing terriers which amazed us.
The Morris Dancing was 'different'. The dancers take it quite seriously which I guess you would have to. It is a bit like the folk dancing I did when I was at school. The costumes they wear you have to say is rather poncy. We spoke to a guy from the group about it who gave us the group's programme for the next eight months or so. It was a full list of events for the Yately Morris Dancers. We were very pleased to see it happen and they were very successful as far as the crowd was concerned.
