NEWQUAY

Rose and I traveled to Newquay in Cornwall on Monday. The best way to go is along the A303. Unfortunately the A303 was closed towards the eastern end. We got a fair way along before we had to divert and we changed to the A30 which seemed the perfect option because it is the road we had to take across Cornwall at the end of the the journey. I think we found out the reason people take the A303. We turned off the A303 at a place called West Knoyle. That turns out to be about half of the road left to travel unless you go back onto it, of course, which we decided not to do. The problem is, the road is narrow in many places, and passes through some towns or villages which have traffic lights and cars parked along the roadsides. Stour (West and East) and Henstridge were notable problem areas which made our journey much longer. To cut a long story short, it took us between seven and eight hours to reach Newquay. The only real highlight was a stop for dinner at a wonderful pub (The Eliot Arms) in a little village near Launceston called Tregadillet. At around 8pm we arrived at The Headland Hotel, pictured above, in Newquay.
