The Headland Hotel was next to a great beach which was obviously a popular surfing spot. Even in winter, there were people surfing. I would imagine, in summer, it would be heaving. On Tuesday, we drove north along the coast. We passed through some great coastal villages on a road which was hilly and windy. Reminded us of some NZ roads. The villages had names like Trenance, Treburrick, Trevorrick, Trevose and Trevone. There are places all around this area with names starting with 'Tre'. We ended up, fortuitously, at a fishing village called Padstowe, which was quite popular with tourists. We could tell, because there was a whole lot there with us looking around.
Padstowe had a busy working port and a shop on the wharf called Rick Stein's Deli. There were lots of quirky, little, boutique shops (probably two of those words are redundant because boutique may mean quirky and little). The carpark was weird because the bays were too small and the lanes were small so that it was too difficult to manoeuvre into the parks. I found one which was in such a position that it was possible to get into it but the neighbouring cars were so close it was difficult to get out of the car. Anyway, a great day out which we finished when the rain got too heavy.
